High Tea

High Tea
This is the story of an old teapot what was once all alone in the estate of Katong. Before its new life here, the teapot was abandoned on streets with a riot of colors and patterns– a result of the old in our modern society.

High Tea was on display at the National Design Centre in Singapore from 12 January – 8 February 2017 as part of the Celebrating Found Objects exhibition in collaboration with Naiise.
The eclectic shophouses that frame Katong especially along Joo Chiat Road, have a deep rooted Peranakan culture – a culture known for intricate handicrafts and colorful sweets.
With its antique China floral design and light form inspired by a cloud, High Tea pays homage to this exclusive Peranakan community that inhabits Katong which is an abode for an exuberant mix of new age repurposing.
Responsibly sourced and handmade, High Tea is more than just a lamp. It is a manifestation of whimsicality and wonder, a splinter of history and so much more.
